- ilFGoodrich INTER-ORGANIZATION CORRESPONDENCE TO LEE BENNETT FROM .JIM D. HASTINGS SUBJECT I FIELD POINT OR DEPT. & BLDG. NO. I AVON LAKE TECHNICAL CENTER FIELD POINT OR DEPT. & BLDG. NO. AVON LAKE TECHNICAL CENTER | DATE YOUR LETTER I DATE THIS LETTER 9/26/77 BUILDING 414 AREA MONITORING REPORT FROM 9/1 - 9J8/77 Date 9/2 Shift 2-A fcv'i. - 9/3 3-B 9/4 4-B 9/6 6-B 6-C 9/7 7-A 7-B 9/7 7- B 9/8 8- A Comments SA 940 had to be aborted while burping SA to the 3000 gallon stripper. We had one reading of 7.6 ppm on third floor. We suspected the head gasket to be leaking, due to the extreme pressure. We applied the canvas cover to the manway on SA and the readings went back to \ P normal. Again, we had a red light while transferring SA to the 3000 gallon stripper, head gasket suspected to be leaking. Found VCM fitting on D-poly manifold to be leaking. Had 4.2 ppm readings for three cycles on stream No. 4. We tightened the loose union and this seemed to correct the problem. Still getting some mystery excursions on stream No. 4, even after leaking VCM fitting on D poly was discovered. Yellow lights on all streams just after midnight. There was a very slight wind from the south at this time. I believe we were picking up yeilcw lights from ALGCP. We picked up two readings of 8.0 and 6.9 ppm on the day shift due to dropping a foamy charge to buckets. Air masks were worn while performing this task. Again, we experienced yellow lights for 33.78% of the shift. Little or no air movement from the south prevailed all of the shift. We are pointing the finger at ALGCP. Ambient levels were high all over. Hydrin showed up to 3.7 ppm for almost two hours. The computer room *7 was also high. The lab had 15.6% of their reading above 1 ppm. The shift average was 1,39 ppm, and every stream except the breathing air was at its high for the week during this period. We did have a red light fate on this shift. We dropped W-poiy Bl ^--1956-n 2/77 LIT l i O 'JSA NQC 23541 BUILDING 414 AREA MONITORING REPORT FROM 9/1 - 9/18/77 - continued page 2 to the 100 gallon stripper. We could not find the source with the meter, although the lights were on following the dropping of W-poly. GENERAL: The worst shift was on midnights, September 8. Most of the excursions have to be attributed to ALGCP. Our operators are entering more comments which enables us to determine the cause of more excursions. We had a very good week going until the back plant dumped on us, and raised the overall average for the week to .40 ppm. JH:mg Jim Hastings NGC 23542
