PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Basic Uses: Gypsumboard panel as an inner layer sound transmission control component for wood and steel stud partitions of both load bearing and non-load bearing types and for wood joist floor/ceiling assembly. G-P 1/4" INCOMBUSTIBLE GYP SUM SOUND DEADENING BOARD is designed for use in interior gypsum drywall assemblies requiring a high sound transmission class (STC) or, in addition, fire resistance ratings. Assemblies utilizing such panels offer the following advantages: Savings of space, compared with thickness of assemblies with other types of sound isolation boards; Economic, low first cost construc tion, with easy handling and fast erection; High strength to resist abuse dur ing handling and in-place. Joint treatment not required for panels to achieve sound and fire rat ings as conducted by independent acoustical laboratories and as indi cated herein. Limitations: Sound tests on assem blies by independent acoustical lab oratories and with ratings as indi cated herein were conducted under stabilized laboratory conditions. Be cause the manufacturer has no prior knowledge of specific conditions such as design, general construction, field erection methods, etc. for a par ticular building project, no warranty of field performance may be made. Use care to follow recommended pro cedures in avoidance of sound trans mission through leaks (flanking paths, penetrations, etc.). Caulk perimeters, using good quality sealant. Do not use panels in areas where sustained high humidity or direct weather wetting conditions occur. Composition and Materials: G-P Va" INCOMBUSTIBLE GYPSUM SOUND DEADENING BOARD con sists of a solid incombustible gypsum core, specially formulated for the uses intended, with a distinctive green face paper. To mechanically fasten panels to metal studs of partitions as well as to wood construction, power driven self tapping G-P DRYWALL SCREWS are recommended. G-P DRYWALL NAILS may be used for securing panels to partition studs or floor/ceiling joists of wood. Facing layer for exposed sides of such gypsum drywall assemblies may be of several types and thicknesses of fire resistance rated and U.L. Labeled gypsumboard. G-P REGU LAR WALLBOARD may be used in equivalent thickness where no tire ratings are involved. Such gypsum board is available either paper faced and suitable for a painted finish, G-P FIRESTOP" WALLBOARD, or vinyl surfaced (integral finish) G-P FIRESTOP" ETERNAWALL M. Facing layer and tinish may also be of veneer plas ter type base and finish, G-P DENSCOTE'' BASE and DENS-COTE PLASTER: see manufacturer's sepa rate detailed literature for Dens-Cote plastering Systems. Con sult the manufacturer's representative for types of caulking and gasketing to be used to prevent sound leaks at per imeters, penetrations, flanking paths, etc. Where required for a specific STC assembly, batts or blankets of fiber glass type insulation are recom mended for fitting between partition studs, either unfaced (and available with the U.L. Label for Class A fire resistance rating) or kraft paper faced one side as a vapor barrier (and generally suitable for use on wood frame construction). INSTALLATION Preparatory Work: Include the fol lowing: Store gypsumboard so as to pre vent damage and exposure to the elements. Maintain in-building temperatures during joint finishing and adhesives work in cold weather at not less than 50' F, with adequate ventilation to dispose of excessive moisture. Methods: Consult with manufac turer's detailed literature, "Gypsum Wallboard for Wall and Ceiling Sys tems" and "Sounds Great" (SBD-5), or to ANSI A97.1, American National Standards Institute Standard Specifi cations for the Application and Fin ishing of Gypsum Wallboard for more detailed specifications on installation procedures for various partition and floor/ceiling assemblies incorporat ing 1/4" INCOMBUSTIBLE GYPSUM SOUND DEADEN'NG BOARD. Caulk and gasket assembly thoroughly to prevent leaks. Avoid back-to-back mounting of electrical and plumbing outlets, etc. Install gypsumboard inner and fac ing layers on partition framing verti cally. Stagger joints on opposite sides of framing for both sound iso lation panels and for facing layers. Vertical joints of facing layers should fall between studs. For best sound barrier, strip laminate facing layer to inner layer with beads of G-P LAMI NATING COMPOUND or G-P DRYWALL ADHESIVE at 16-inch spacings. Secure top and bottom of facing panels on partitions to top and bot tom plates or runner tracks with suitable mechanical fasteners. Finish exposed joints and fasteners for paper faced gypsumboard per manu facturer's recommendations, in prep aration for final finish of paint or other such coatings. Install batt or blanket insulation between studs at assemblies where required to a tight friction fit; staple paper flaps of faced material at fram ing members. To achieve listed STC and INR rat ings for floor/ceiling assembly, use not less than 40 oz. weight carpet pad and 44 oz. carpet. See Table 2 and Installation Details, Figures 1 through 8, herein for gen eral procedures. Installation Details are typical and not intended to be a complete list of all assemblies tested by the manufacturer. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Basic Uses: Vinyl surfaced gyp sumboard is used as exposed fire re sistant wallboard panels for interior partitions and walls in commercial or institutional buildings, as well as in residences. Particularly adaptable to high traffic areas. ETERNAWALL is suitable for use on new or existing partitions of either fixed or demountable types having wood or metal framing or furring, or it can be directly applied to masonry walls. The panels are resistant to hard wear, such as abrasion, staining and soiling and may, with few exceptions, be readily scrubbed clean without damage. The vinyl colors are fade resistant. Limitations: Do not use panels where sustained high humidity or di rect weather wetting conditions occur. Composition and Materials: ETERNAWALL is fabricated of vinyl film surfacing, factory laminated to the exposed finish side and wrapped around the long edges of gypsum board backing. The gypsumboard, paper faced both sides, has a solid incombustible gypsum core. To avoid appearance of mechanical fasteners, G-P DRYWALL ADHESIVE may be used to secure ETERNAWALL to partition framing or wall furring. G-P LAMINATING COMPOUND or adhesive is recommended as adhe sive for direct application of the panels to existing partitions or to G-P 1/4 " GYPSUM SOUND DEADEN ING BOARD, where used in sound control partitions. Use G-P GRABIT MASONRY ADHESIVE for direct application of ETERNAWALL to ma sonry walls. G-P SPEED-SET JOINT COMPOUND is recommended for joint fill coats and wheat paste or latex based adhesives, such as CO LUMBUS COATED FABRICS #FC200 and #FC-100 respectively, for securing vinyl edge flaps when fin ishing joints of G-P's SMOOTH SUR FACE SYSTEM type panels. To mechanically fasten panels to partition framing or furring, G-P DRYWALL SCREWS and NAILS are re commended. Color coated nails are available to match the standard line of vinyl film colors for use on non fire resistance rated partition assem blies. Power driven self-tapping screws may be used where appear ance is not of concern or to secure panels to metal. Snap-on trim of two-piece vinyl covered moldings, with flat or angle profile, may be used to conceal vertical joints at partition field, ter mination or corner locations. Vinyl patterns and colors are available from the standard line of ETERNAWALL finishes. Battens are available where exposed nails or screws may be con sidered unsightly. Grades: Two grades are readily available: REGULAR ETERNAWALL is fabri cated with gypsumboard having a regular or plain solid gypsum core. FIRESTOP* ETERNAWALLTM is fire resistance rated for various partition assemblies and bears the U.L. Label. The gypsumboard sub-strate has a technically designed gypsum core, with unexpanded vermiculite and glass fibers added. Types: Two types are readily avail able, in either grade: STANDARD panels, used with or without snap-on trim. SMOOTH SURFACE SYSTEM panels, designed to achieve a mono lithic appearance with smooth, flush joints. Sizes and Shapes: Thickness: V2 inch (13 mm) stand ard for REGULAR grade; % inch (10 mm) and Vs inch (16 mm) readily available on special order. V2 inch and Vs inch standard for FIRESTOP grade. Widths: 4 feet (1.22 m) standard (and maximum), with lesser widths readily available on special order for STANDARD type, both grades. Lengths: 8 feet (2.44 m) and 10 feet (3.04 m) standard for both types and both grades of wallboard panels and for snap-on trim. Other lengths from 7 feet to 16 feet (2.13 to 4.88 m) are also available on special order, most readily in 1 foot increments. Edges: STANDARD type panel has modified bevel (vee) profile on each long edge. SMOOTH SURFACE SYS TEM panel has a round-edge profile with vinyl surface flap on each long edge. Finishes: Vinyl surfacing for panel finish in the manufacturer's standard line is unbacked film of 6 mil thick ness. A variety of textures and printed textures, patterns and colors are offered. A wide range of other textures, patterns and colors of vinyl film, with or without fabric backing and in vary ing thicknesses, are also available on special order. Slight texture and color differences may occur between panels not ob tained from the same production run of vinyl. At locations where this may be a problem, use care in the selec tion of adjacent panels. Applicable Standards: Gypsumboard Backing. TECHNICAL DATA Fire Hazard Classification: Con forms to U.L. Standard 723 when 'A ", Vi", and %" thick wallboard panels, both grades, were tested with and without vinyl surfacing on one side, as published in the U.L. 1972 Building Materials List. See Table 1. Vinyl Film is either supported or un supported. Fire Resistance Ratings: Ratings up to 2 hours are available for various partition assemblies, based on tests by Underwriters' Laboratories (see U.L. Latest Edition, Fire Reistance Index) and other independent labo ratories. All test reports are available upon request. Sound Control Ratings: Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings of up to 55 are available for various par tition assemblies, when ETERNAWALL used in conjunction with G-P V*" gypsum sound deadening BOARD, and based on tests by inde pendent acoustical laboratories. All test reports are available upon re quest. SMOOTH SURFACE SYSTEM INSTALLATION DETAILS Lay vinyl flaps of vertical edge back (do not crease), using masking tape. Nail or screw edges as required. Fill tapered width of joint with joint fill com pound. Tape is not required. After set of fill coat, apply a light finish coat of the com pound to joint. 5. INSTALLATION Preparatory Work: For best results, pre-bow a stack of panels by laying face up overnight with 2x4 supports at each end. Methods: General: Install panels vertically on partitions or walls. Except where a fire resistive rated assembly is re quired which specifically precludes such use, beads of adhesive may be used to secure panels to partition framing or wall furring, to existing partition surfaces, to G-P Va " GYP SUM SOUND DEADENING BOARD, or to masonry walls. Secure top and bottom of panels with screws or nails, as appropriate to the framing, or brace in place until adhesive is set. Consult with manufacturer's repre sentative or refer to manufacturer's detailed literature, Gypsum Wallboard for Wall and Ceiling Systems and/or ETERNAWALL Smooth Surface Sys tem for more detailed specifications on installation procedures for both types of ETERNAWALL. STANDARD Type Panel: Snap-on trim is available to conceal vertical panel joints for this panel type. Back piece of trim may be screwed, nailed or adhered in place. When trim is de leted, adhesive method of panel in stallation is recommended. After final coat of compound has set (it does not have to be dry), apply paste to the joint and back of the vinyl flap. Lay one flap over and smooth down with broad knife. Repeat with second flap. Squeeze out excess adhesive from under flaps, making sure no lumps remain. Use care not to stretch vinyl when smoothing with knife. Remove the excess exposed flap. Pull back the top flap and remove the excess of the underneath flap. Smooth the vinyl down over the joint area with a broad knife. The joint is now complete. A roller may be used as an additional final step. Building Codes: Various partition assemblies incorporating ETERNA- WALL panels have received approval of ICBO, SBCC and BOCA, as well as many local building code authorities. 6.
