MINUTES of the HEALTH Sr SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING , NATIONAL INSULATION MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION New York, N. Y. ' November 16, 1970. The Meeting was called to order at 10:30 A.M. with the follow ing in attendance: C.L. Sheckler W. Gubar J.F. Vyverberg J.M. Barnhart J-M C/GB 0-C NIMA C.L. Sheckler reviewed the Committee activities and coorespondence since August 1, 1970. The Committee received final copies of "Health Aspects of Fibrous Glass in Air Transmission Systems for Building Con struction" . It was recommended that the pamphlets be sent to Federal, State, top 50 Cities Departments of Health and Labor, as well as to the Business Agents of SMWIA through their Headquarters, the local Associations of SMACNA, and to NICA through their headquarters and their Health and Safety Com mittee. Copies to customers, architects, engineers, etc., are to be distributed through each individual company rep resentatives and/or marketing function. It was agreed that C.L. Sheckler and J.F. Vyverberg would fol low up their meeting of September 3, 1970 with W.H. Turner of AT&T. Further, that they will continue to follow up the pending Ohio Legislation. The New York City revised Air Pollution Code was discussed The Code has not been made public to date. However, copies have been obtained, and it has been noted that asbestos has been banned from spraying operations in New York City. NIMA has been asked by Mt. Sinai School of Medicine through their Insulation Industry Hygiene Research Project to serve on an Ad Hoc Committee to consider presently available in formation and prepare recommendations on the subject of health hazards produced by the use of insulating materials in ship yards. J.M. Barnhart, C.L. Sheckler and a technical represen tative will serve in this capacity. It was agreed that the 1971 Objectives should include the following: 1. Assistance shall be given to contractors where needed. A joint NIMA - NICA Health and Safety Committee Meeting shall be arranged to discuss mutual problems. 2. Articles shall be placed in the NICA Outlook on health and safety subjects, preferably three times a year. The articles are to be written by Committee members. One such article could be on the subject of workmens* compensation. 3. A program shall be developed for appearances at public hearings. The next Committee Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16, 1971, J-M Conference Room (Second Floor) 22 East 40th Street, Hew York, N. Y., at 9:30 A.M.
