As a result, the directory was designed to accommodate two types of user ap proaches. The first approach would be used for a state by state search to as sess the availablility and proximity of waste management services. The second approach would be used to locate a particular service. For the first approach, the state sections should be used. Each state sec tion includes a facility locator map, summary table of waste types accepted at various facilities in that state, regulatory information, facility profiles, transporter profiles, spill response dean-up services, consultant profiles, laboratory profiles, and soil boring/well drilling profiles. For fadlities, it is the facility location that determines in which state section the profile is placed. For mobile treatment units and transporters, the sales office location determines the profile location. Con sultants, laboratories, and/or soil boring/well drilling services must have a per manent office in the state to be listed, and all the services in that state are induded in one profile. The state sections are organized in the following way: 1. Each state section begins with a fadlity locator map and a summary ( table of waste types accepted. Together these identify and locate the facilities in the state. No temporary storage fadlities are included on the locator map or the summary table. 2. The summary table of waste types accepted allows the user to initially identify those facilities in the state which may treat, store, recyde, reuse or dis pose of the user's waste. This initial selection can be made without reading any facility profiles. 3. More detailed information on the waste types accepted is available in the fadlity profiles. Descriptions of the storage, treatment, recycling, detoxifica tion, or disposal available both on-site and off-site are provided in the profiles. Sales office addresses and telephone numbers are provided. Each fadlity profile contains information on transportation services, if any are offered. If the company owning the facility provides transportation services independent of the waste management services at the facility, there will be more information on its transportation services in that state's transporter section. If so, a reference to the transporter section is included at the end of the facility profile. The term "facility'' is used generally. It includes TSD facilities, PCB service ( facilities, recycling facilities, temporary storage facilities and transfer stations. In v 40 CFR 260.10, TSD facilities are defined as treatment, storage, or disposal facilities. Temporary storage facilities/transfer stations do not offer long-term V 729585 0075 storage; they are not TSDs. They are included among facility profiles in state sections because they provide a means of arranging for waste management ser vices. They are not included on facility locator maps or summary tables of waste types accepted. The following page shows an example of a typical facility profile.
