Carl Thompson (Hill and Knowlton) \ "{/ SUMMARY OF JANUARY 27TH MEETING While we do not propose to prepare formal "minutes" of each of our monthly Health Committee Meetings (since we will have the tape recording on file), I thought it might be helpful to each of us to have a brief list of those matters that were discussed that require further study or action. Accordingly, here is such a list from our first meeting: . Dr. Smith will have ready on January 30 the overall summation (that Mr. Burnett requested) on what physical and medical research on asbestos/fiber glass is being done by whom, where. In such discussions as will follow Mr. Burnett's review of this summation, we would hope to bring up for consider- J ation the recommendation that a competent person such as Dr. Milton Rosenblatt be commissioned to do a thorough literature search on Mesothelioma. . Carl Thompson volunteered to review the above-mentioned report by Dr-- Smith to offer suggestions and assistance e in turning this into a visual presentation (if Mr. BurnetC ea. so desires) . . When Jack Solon and Bill Raines visit with A. C. Smith at Manville next month, they will seek more details as to . the program (described by Hugh Jackson) for thorough operat&S^ MORE MT-002712 2- 0002 2710 SUMMARY OF JANUARY 27TH MEETING audit of all J-M plants and accompaning recommendations to the Senior Officers. It was agreed that it is important to make certain that steps are taken as soon as possible to eliminate the emission of asbestos fiber into the air, at J-M plants if this is technologically and economically feasible. This aspect of the over-all operations audit, we feel, should be given high priority. . Jack Solon has asked Hugh Jackson, A. C. Smith and Carl Thompson to provide to him, by February 3, their portions of the bi-monthly progress report for Mr. Burnett. Bill Raines will coordinate the three reports and draft any appropriate covering memo. . Dr. Smith will inquire, informally, of Mike Pelnar to determine just how widely the Q.A.M.A. institute plans to distribute its bulletins and research findings. . Hill and Knowlton will undertake two assignments with regard to the "white paper": (a) Prepare an up-to-date brief question and answer memorandum that would enable Mr. Burnett to handle questions that we might anticipate from financial analysts, stockholders or the press in connection with our Annual Meeting March 16. (b) Undertake a more detailed analysis of the white paper, in light of the comments made by the British doctors. This might take the form of a listing of "charges" against asbestos and a candid appraisal of each charge, based upon facts that we presently know.
