Dear Dr. Edgar: I have recently had an inquiry concerning the lead content of fumes which merge from spark plug holes when carbon is burned out of motors, by informant says that a blue smoke comes out which colors everything with which i't comes in contact in a blue manner which is typical of lead. I am not regarding this test for lead as sufficiently accurate, but it occurs to me that I do not have any data on the lead content of carbon from motors. Such information as I have would lead me to be lieve that the quantity is small, but I would be glad to have any more accurate information which you may happen to have on this point for the question will probably rise again. I am engaged at present in writing a book which will contain practically all of our information on the excretion of lead and the ingestion of lead, includ ing the data of the last investigation on the hazards of Ethyl Gasoline. I hope to have this completed in the next three or four months, and I mention it merely be cause it occurs to me that you may be interested in know ing that all of the data on this subject is being assem bled together in one place in the form of a monograph.
