The sent* toxicity of FC-203CC to the dapbnid, DapUis aagrna, is described in this final report. The test was conducted for 3H Compuy for 49 boars duringJune 10 to 12, 1991, at the EnviroSystems Division of Resource Analyst&, Inc. in Hampton, Now Hampshire. it was conducted by Jeanne Nagazo, Peter Kowalski, Ellen Stanford, Robert boori, and Timothy Ward.
The test was performed under static conditions with five concentrations of test substance and a dilution water control at a temperature of 20 1 10C. The dilution water was filtered natural well water collected at Nampton, Now Hampshire. Aeration was not employed to maintain dissolved oxygen concentrations above an acceptable level. Nominal concentrations of rC-203CE were: 0 mg/L (control), 150 mg/L, 250 ag/L, 400 mg/L, 600 mg/L, and 1,000 mg/L. Nominal concentrations were used for all calculations.
Daphnids used In the test were produced from an in-house culture and were less than 24 hours old at the start of the test. After 48 hours of exposure the control dapbuids had an average wet weight (blotted dry) of 0.0001 g, resultingin a loading rate of 0.003 g/L. All dapbuids were in good condition at the beginningof the study. Exposure of dapbnidm to the test substance resulted in a 48 hour EC50 greater than 1,000 ag/L TC-203CZ.

This study was sponsored by 3N Company, St. Paul, Ninnexota. The objective of the study was to dateraine'theacute toxicity of FC-203CE to the dapbnid, a freshwater invertebrate. The report contains sections that dS3cribe the methods and materials employ" in the study, and the results of the investigation. The report also contains an appendix that presents the water quality data collected during the test.
V. SMODS AND NILTVIALS
TEST SUBSTANCE:
FC-203CI (ItnviroSystms Sample 'Number 2935Z) was delivered to EnviroSysteas on Nay 23, 1991. It v" contained in a 4 oz. plastic bottle that was labelled with the following -information:"JI$84-1. FC203CS". IPC-203CE (an orange-brown liquid) was supplied by 3H Company, 935 Bush Avenue, St. Paul, Ninnesota. Prior to use the test material was stored in the dark at room temperature. A reserve sample (approximately1.1 grans) will be archived at tnvirosystess for a-aininum of 10 years.
DILUTROM WATER:
Water used for acclimationof test organisms and for all toxicity testing was collected from wells at' InviroSystess in lampton, Now,,... gampshirs. Water was stored in 500-gallon polyethylene tanks where it was aerated. Results of cbenical analysis of-a representative sample of waterare prosented.in Table 1.

The definitivetoxicity.teswtas performed during June 10 to 22, 1991. It is based on proceduresof the OBCD (1984). The test was conducted at a target temperatureof 20 t IOC with five concentrations of test substance and a dilutionwater control. A 1,000 mg/L stock solution was formulated without the use of a solvent. wouinal concentrationsof the test materialwere: 0 mg/L (control),150 ag/L, 250 ng/L, 400 ag/L, 600 ag/L, and 1,000 mg/L.
Twenty daphnids were randomly and equally distributedamong four replicates of each treatment@-The test was perfora*din 250 al glass beakers that contained 200,al of test solution (water depth was approximately6 ca). Test vessels were randomly arranged in an incubator during the 48 hour test (a randomnumbers tablewas used to select the location of each vessel). A 16 hour light and 8 hour dark photoperiod was automatically-maintained with cool-whitefluorescent lights that provideda light intensityof 20 ugs-'s-2.Aeration was not required to maintain dissolved oxygenconcentrationsabove acceptablelevels. Daphaidswere not fed during the test.
The number of surviving organisms and the occurrence of imobilization (inabilityto swim within 15 seconds after gentle agitation)or other sublethal.-eff*cts(lossof equilibriume,rratic swimming, lose of reflex, excitability,discolorationo,r change in behavior) were determinedvisuallyand recordedinitiallyand after 24 and 48 hours.
