Used in the preparation of general purpose varnishes, cold cut in solvents for maintenance paints, and especially recommended for use in nitrocellulose lacquers because of low acid value and superior alcohol tolerance. It is soluble in aromatics, aliphatics, esters and vegetable oils.

This has the same use as 3Ul5 except that it is not compatible with nitrocellulose. It is preferred to the glycerine ester because of greater hardness, higher melting point and better heat stability.

Used in industrial and maintenance lines for a wide variety of purposes. It is used to increase and control gloss, and to improve hardness, drying time, and washability. The resin solution dries to touch fairly quickly, but is brittle and is not recommended for exterior work. It is suitable for either spray or brush application. Mineral spirit tolerance is good.
(3Uh7) For industrial primers where the heavy body is necessary because of the unusually great reduction used. The semi-gelled condition due to the zinc allows extremely rapid drying by solvent evaporation, followed by slower through dry by oxidation. It is used in either spray or dip formulation. It dries hard, has reasonably good water resistance, durability and good adhesion to metal.
(3h67) This, has comparatively good hardness and good drying, but is inferior in this respect to phthalic alkyds. Flow and flexibility are com parable to alkyds. It has fair water resistance, good durability, and good color retentive qualities except with prolonged exposure
to sunlight. For these reasons it is not recommended for exterior
use. It is used in those lines where a brushing finish is required
that does not need excessive durability. (3I167) was developed for
semi-lustre paint.
(3U D 30) Having toluol and ethyl acetate as solvents, it is used in nitro cellulose lacquers where it serves as a modifier to maintain' or improve hardness while lowering the cost of relatively expensive nitrocellulose. It also improves the efficiency of lacquer thinners by combining with the nitrocellulose as a mutual solvent.
PE Tall Oil Esters generally have equivalent drying speed, flow,
flexibility and water resistance to PE rosin ester varnishes of equal oil length. Depending on the market conditions, tall oil can be used as an inexpensive oil.
