Smith, three bulk insulation samples from the Glass Plant storage area in the AAD warehouse were submitted to Clayton Environmental Consultants. These samples were analysed for the presence of asbestos using the exhaustive technique of X-ray diffraction. The results indicate the following: Sample Description Pipe insulation, east side, main ramp, Col L6 Pipe insulation Col J10 Pipe insulation Col B-19 Pound on floor Asbestos Contamination (%) 1 -- 2% Chryeotile 6% Amosite l8-20 Chryeotile No other forms detected B% Chryeotile No other forntB detected This material, used as insulation covering pipe, does not pose a significant inhalation hazard to employes working in the area unless there ie actual cutting or ripping of the material aB would typically occur during maintenance activities. As with any work performed on insulation containing asbestoB, proper precaution should be taken in accordance with OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.1001. These precautions include: . Wearing impervious, disposable clothing . Wearing Corporate-approved respirators . Special changing and decontamination areas . Proper housekeeping and maintenance procedures such as wet methods and vacuum cleaning . Visible caution signs and labels . Proper disposal methodB such as collecting waste materials in impermeable, clearly labeled bags . Medical surveillanoe of employes exposed above 0.1 fiber/cc.
