From Don Johnson Date April 15, 1975 Subject VC Release from D-300 On April l4, D-300 was charged with a 5305 formula which calls for a running temperature of 150 degrees F. This in turn causes the reactor pressure to run at approximately 150 psig. The reactor (D-300) had just reached 150 degrees F. on run temperature when the 4" safety disc under the relief valve blew. Pressure at that time was indicating l48 psig. The relief valve which should have been set at 185 psig lifted for approximately 4 to 5 minutes then reseated. Wind was blowing from the East at the time of venting. I estimate that approximately 4 to 5,000 lbs. of VCM was lost. The continuous monitors were checked in the large reactor area and in the lab and no indication was given of any excess ppm VCM in the areas.
