CEMENT ASBESTOS PRODUCTS COMPANY Birmingham, Alabama June 10, 1975 PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT CAP-53 TO FROM: COPY TO: Mr. V. R. Bond Mr. W. B. Beasley Mr. A. E. Alpine I think ve should give serious consideration to providing clothing in the form of coveralls and washing facilities for those workers in our plants that are exposed to excessive asbestos dust conditions. In some cases throwaway clothing has been used, but this becomes quite expensive. Also, some people will wear them more than one day anJ dust particles that accumulated in the clothing has a tendency to shake loose and get into the breathing zone. I am seeing and hearing about more and more companies going to the method of furnishing clothing and washing facilities where asbestos is prevalent. The article I am sending you is an example of some of the fears and supposedly documented cases where workers' families are exposed to asbestos dust that has been taken home in the clothing of the workers, thereby, allegedly causing asbestos-related diseases. It is my opinion that we need to do everything possible to protect our workers and their families from excessive exposure. We must also make each of our employees aware of the potential hazard of working with asbestos through literature and posters that are suitable for this purpose. I would appreciate your commenta as to whether we should implement this program. WBB:mf Attachment HER 0008823
