Health Records Study -- Data collection is almost complete excepting ALTC which should finish in about two weeks. Computer programs unit ing the four data sources were written by S. Haehn and R. Lasch and are being tested. Another program to retrieve and list work histories was completed by J. Schaap. 2. PIC Contest -- Judging was completed. Announcement of the winner is scheduled for the September Plant Managers Meeting. 3. The blood test study contrasting Bioscience and St. Anthony's Hospital in Louisville is underway. 4. Mini computer programs for monitoring and summarizing ambient VC1 data are nearly complete. Additional electrical parts have been ordered for ALGC (R. F. Carroll, R. Hodous, J. Watson, J. Schaap). 5. Mortality Studies -- The Peters and Monson analysis of Louisville and Culvert C--Mortality Dh13 (Juns OSHA b^ t-tar *- analysis produced different conclusions in some instances. Both analy ses agreed that incidence of liver cancer and brain cancer were signi ficantly higher than normal. Peters and Monson used a technique of comparison called, "Proportionate Mortality Analysis" which can produce misleading conclusions. We converted their results to "Actual Mortality tables which should be more realistic (J. Schaap, A. Fairlie). DISCUSSION J. C. Schaap 1. Personnel Monitoring -- A computer program to summarize personnel monitoring and time weighted average VC1 exposure data has been pre pared. It will aid in the preparation of monthly reports. All per sonnel monitoring data will be computerized for use in this program, and will enable the plant PIC Engineers to run correlations, ceiling calculations, etc. 2. Steam Usage at Pedricktown -- Correlations were run on Pedricktown data to determine the amounts of steam needed by the various production departments and the effect of atmospheric temperature on steam require ments. Other departments were not found to affect the amount of steam needed. A. M. Fairlie Akron 1. Laboratory and Testing Optimization -- The Akron General Chemical Plant was visited to exchange ideas on an optimization program being planned. The program will be broad in scope. Among the changes anti cipated are: a shift in testing emphasis to in-process testing (on location, if possible) , installation of control chart systems, retrain' ing, better allocation of testing duties, optimum sampling and testing methods and frequencies. C. A. Brunot will be leading this task force .2 Randy Elkins (M.S. in Statistics, VPI) has accepted a job offer, He will begin training in the Cleveland office in mid-October. Miscellaneous 1. Blood test study contrasting Bioscience and St. Anthony's Hospital in Louisville -- Details of sampling, packaging, and transporting the blobd samples were worked out. Avon Lake ran their first round of sampling on September 4. We hope to complete all blood testing by mid-October. .2 Programs for calculating ambient VC1 TWA's from Bendix data were written as an adaptation of the Multiple Correlation package for Long Beach, Henry, and four Louisville Buildings. The programs also develop instantaneous probabilities of exceeding 25 and 50 ppm for various job classifications plus distributions of predicted TWA results within each job classification. This information can be used in monthly plant reports and developing "High Exposure" vs. TWA relationships. A report on these relationships should be issued in September. 3. Severs Mix Brookfield specifications for dispersion resins were given final look. We will review these with Sales on September 11th. If ap proved we will be ready for the switch to Severs mix testing across th board. 4. A two-day in-house conference on EPA testing needs was attended. 5. Personnel -- Interviewing continues.
