Colleen, We have an update for you: The draft document has been released and the 30 day public comment period closes on January 15, 2018. The link to the document is: https://www.reguiations.gov/docket7D-EPA-HQ-QPP-2015-0519.
We will have to respond to any public comments received. Thus the likelihood of making the Jan 16 deadline is pretty slim and we will likely need to extend for a few weeks, but hopefully not much longer than that.
Regards, Nancy

Hi Nancy, Thanks again for checking. Hopefully, the timing works out. If there's anything we can do to express urgency in the process, please let me know.
Thanks I Colleen

Colleen, After getting further information, I've learned that posting of the final decision in the FR will be required and that will likely slow us down a bit. I don't think its an issue of this not being a priority, its just a matter of the clock ticking and us

having some procedural/administrative hoops (like public comment and Federal Register posting). That said, they are trying hard to get the draft assessment out within the next two weeks.

Hi Nancy - thank you for looking into this and your quick reply. Please keep us updated if you find out more on the timing. In the meantime, if any kind of formal request from my boss and/and other members would be helpful in achieving that timeline, we can definitely do that.
Thanks again! Colleen

Here is what I've learned: The PRIA due date is 1/16/2017. The short answer is that that the program does not currently anticipate a PRIA renegotiation. That being said, the proposed decision still needs to be published for a 30-day public comment period first, and we have not done that yet. The program doesn't expect many adverse comments on this one, but they will need to address any that they receive. My personal opinion is that we are cutting it close but I'm trying to get some more details on the timing of when we actually expect to be able to release the proposed decision.

Hi Jahan -
Thank you for your help on this issue! Our walnut growers recently reached out to my boss regarding Kasugamycin's registration. They're concerned about the possibility that PRIA is going to make a date change for the registration of this pesticide by the EPA, which would be the fourth time the date has been changed (previously changed in 2012, 2015, 2017). This date change would make the material unusable for the upcoming 2018 season. Ideally, it would need to registered by January for growers can have access to it in March. California DPR has reviewed the additional data requirements and has approved its usage on walnuts and cherries. In addition, this material has been registered by the EPA on pome fruit since 2012.
I attached an article discussing the need for Kasugamycin use on walnuts that may be helpful. Please reach out if you need any additional information from us!
Thanks, Colleen
