Provided CBI warning to facility The following information was obtained verbally from Tom Soudan Sr. unless otherwise noted. Process Description: Soudan stamps, shears, slits, and levels excess, off-spec. metal from Cleveland-Cliffs, US Steel, and Nucor Steel. Metal comes to the facility in coils with thickness up to one-quarter inch. Soudan operates six shearing machines, two die cutting machines, one slitter, and a press/forming machine. The facility also makes pallets out from scrap wood for use on-site. Two dust collectors are used to capture sawdust. Staff Interview: The facility has been in operation under Soudan since 1992. Soudan has 35 employees and operates two shifts Monday through Friday. Incoming steel is cleaned using mineral spirits. They use 200-300 gallons of mineral spirits each year. TOUR INFORMATION EPA Tour of the Facility: Yes Data Collected and Observations: EPA observed the metal processing operations, including the heavy gauge leveling line and shearing machines in operation.
