Procedure: The test material, in original form, was diluted with test water to yield the desired concentrations in a 400 ml final volume. After mixing, each concentration was split into two equal volumes and introduced intq separate 250 ml glass vessels. Identical jars containing only test water were designated as controls. A nominal total of 10 daphnids (Daphnia magna; less than 24 hours old) was placed Into each vessel. Mortality counts and observations were made at 1, 3, 24 and 48 hours after initiating exposure. No aeration or food was provided during the test, and temperature was maintained at 18 0.2C. Dissolved oxygen, pH and conductivity measurements were taken on the control and high level exposure solutions prior to test initiation. Calculation of the 48-hour LC50 and confidence limits was by probit analysis (Finney, 1971).3
