The Housewares and Audio Business Division of the General ^ Electric Company understands that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has contracted for new tests of hand held hair dryers. We will co"operate with the CPSC and their testing- agencies; we will make available the results of o ut testing to CPSC and their agencies,and we wish, to have an opportunity to review the results ^--^ of their testing. . , .. ' . We have been able to obtain, only within the past week, through our Washington Office, what we believe to be the. testing procedure __ and conclusions of MV Associates. It appears that no General Electric hand held hair dryer units were tested by EMV Associates. - Based on past Government Agency documents, and our own testing . of General Electric hand held hair dryers, we do not believe o u t ` units present, or could present, a health hazard. ' ' Despite favorable testing, however, because of the possible concern created among consumers by the recent publicity, we have, decided to discontinue shipping hand held haiT dryers containing asbestos insulation. Further, we have instructed our Product Service centers throughout the country to retrofit such General Electric - asbestos insulated dryers brought in by concerned consumers with, a . non-asbestos insulator.
