Results are as follows: Sample 1: "Headquarters Vending Machine" This sample was analyzed only by optical light microscopy because there was not enough material to perform an x-ray scan. Dispersion staining microscopy revealed the presence of birefringent fibrous material with the optical charac teristics of cellulose. No fibrous material with the optical and morphological characteristics of asbestos was seen. This sample does not contain asbestos. Sample 2: "Insulation From Furnace Room, Plymouth Jet, Michigan" This sample was analyzed by optical light microscopy and x-ray diffraction. An x-ray diffraction scan of this sample revealed that this sample contains an amphibole form of asbestos. Dispersion staining microscopy revealed the presence of birefringent fibrous material with the optical and morphological characteristics of asbestos. This sample does contain asbestos. Sample 3: (RandalIstown) and Sample 4: (Lanark, Pa.) Sample 3 was analyzed by dispersion staining optical light microscopy. Fibrous material with the optical and morpho logical characteristics of chrysotile asbestos was seen. This sample contains asbestos. Sample 4 was not analyzed. The container holding this sample was received broken and the sample was contaminated. CONFIDENTIAL 003621 Mr. L. Williams 2 Sample 5: "811 Main Kansas City Basement" and Sample 6: "811 Main Lobby" An x-ray diffraction scan of sample 5 revealed that this sample contains an amphibole form of asbestos. Dispersion staining microscopy revealed the presence of birefringent fibrous material with the optical and morphological charac teristics of asbestos. This sample does contain asbestos. An x-ray diffraction scan of sample 6 revealed that this sample contains an amphibole form of asbestos. Sample 7: "BSSC Conference Room, 825 Main Kansas City" An x-ray diffraction scan of this sample revealed that this sample contains an amphibole form of asbestos.
