Phillips On February 19th a meeting was held with the management of the Texas Operations Vinyl Chloride Manufacturing Units. The meeting attendees were: Gary Phillips - Unit Manager - Unit I/OCD Davey Jones - Superintendent - CEP Dale Green - Environmental Supervisor - Unit I Harry Klingardner - IH Contact - Unit I Darryl Cragar - Manager of Industrial Hygiene Services C. K. Browdy, M.D. - Physician for CEP & Unit I Donna Hicks - IH Supervisor R. J. Shellenberger - Project Leader/Epideraiology At the meeting, I presented the contents and results of all Epidemiology studies conducted including Texas Operations Vinyl Chloride production employees. The original CMA preliminary study results were presented and followed by the most recent CMA update results. Emphasis was placed that this study was not necessarily representative of the experience in Texas Operations due to the large number (and diversity) of plants included, and that our population consisted of only 2.5% of the CMA cohort. The Buffler 1979 V1V2 study was then presented emphasizing that this study was Texas Operations specific. The excess seen in respiratory cancer in this study led to the discussion of the Texas Operations Lung Cancer Case Control Study. It was explained that in the lung cancer study, no association was seen with either employment in Vinyl Chloride units or with Vinyl Chloride itself. Phillips & Jones felt that they alone should present the CMA update results to their employees.
