Kreitz Pipe covered with asbestos containing insulation is a potential exposure source of asbestos. There is this type of pipe in the plant scrap yard. All material containing asbestos must be disposed of by sealing in a properly labeled container and buried in an approved area. Therefore, to assure that exposure to asbestos is minimized and the disposal of it is proper, I strongly recommend that all pipe be stripped of its insulation before placing it in the scrap yard. Stores will not accept anymore insulated pipe into the scrap yard until this problem is resolved.
