It includes a release from NIOSH de scribing recent evidence that a potential asbestos hazard may occur during brake and clutch servicing operations. Also included are interim recommendations from NIOSH aimed at minimizing such exposures, as well as minutes of a recent meeting to review this problem. These minutes, with the list of attendees, emphasize the high level of concern generated by this potential hazard. It would appear wise to assign a high priority to the prompt evaluation of this potential exposure within Shell. Such evaluation would necessarily require an air sampling program to define degree of exposure and determine which, if any, groups of employees should be added to the current medical surveillance program under the OSHA asbestos standard.
