Kell A-2-S We currently have twelve law suits filed against us and the Drakenfeld Company by individuals claiming a hepatitis condition upon exposure to our Aroclor 4465. We have been served an interrogatory to answer con cerning various properties of Aroclor 4465 and, basically, what we have done through the years to investigate and publish in the way of warn ings to people who will be using the material. I would appreciate you. and Research, by way of this memo, examining your files on Aroclor 4465 through the years to determine the following. 1) Was a study made by Monsanto before we marketed Aroclor 4465, to determine whether or not Aroclor compounds could cause injury or desease to workers in industry. 2) Have we done these same things at any time after we began marketing Aroclor 4465? 3) Before Aroclor 4465 was marketed, did we request and receive the opinion of any medical doctor or doctors, as to whether or not Aroclor compounds could cause injury or desease to workers in industry? 4) Have we had any claims made against us in which the claimant asserted that the use of Aroclor compounds caused him or her to suffer injury or desease? As you can see from the questions, obtaining the answers will mean going back into the files as long as we have made Aroclor 4465. I would appreciate your comments as to actions which were done, by whom, and copies of these actions if possible. Wo do know of cases where people developed chloracne or liver problem from injudicious use of Aroclor. I would have ao knowledge, however, as to whether any actual claims were filed, Obviously, this would bo in our legal Department. I aa a little confuted by yoar last paragrapte. Certainly there have been many memoranda to individual# la the company aau outside, regarding the safe use of Aroclor# I do not believe you want a copy of each one of these.
