As r e s u l t o f our combined American e x p e r ie n c e s , some s e v e n t y - f iv e m o d ific a tio n s end improvements proposed e r e in beynee owing- to sh o r ta g e o f m a te r ia ls and men, and I cannot s e e ny hope o f a s i g n i f i c a n t improvement in the d eg ree o f exp osure h ere u n t i l t h e s e are com p'leted. dy o f f in ev ery sev en , b u t, u n fo r tu n a te ly , one week he ws p erm itted to go

one day o f f in sev en , but t h is had to be m od ified to 52 hours to s u i t w orking

The typ;e o f work had no b e a r in g on th e e x c r e t io n s , w hich, w ith
th e e x c e p tio n o f two sa m p les, were above normal but w ith in s a f e l i m i t s ,
n t m n g e ly enough th e e x c e s s o f s p i l l a g e d id n o t show up in th e lea d e x c r e t io n
o f u r in e , and th e e x c r e t io n on th e day o f f was n o t s i g n i f i c a n t l y lo w e r . There
was a ten d en cy , how ever, f o r th e e x c r e tio n t o be low er on th e d ry f o llo w in g th e
day o f f when the in d iv id u a l had retu rn ed to w ork. I t i s a p p r e c ia te d th a t
some co n ta m in a tio n o f th e s e sampues i s in e v i t a b l e . We are p/rop o s in g t o run

L a st month we did a s e r i e s o f t e s t s on d u st masks issu e d to workmen in ih e fu rn a ce and a l l o y b u ild in g s . A ll had been in use fo r a p p ro x im a tely th e same le n g th o f tim e . The lo a d c o n te n t o f th e -e masks was in in v e r s e p ro p o rtio n to th e amount o f le a d found in th e f a e c e s . V.' have, s in c e lea rn ed th a t we may have keen unkind t o some o f th e in d iv id u a ls co n cern ed , as th e f a c e - p ie c e s did n ot f i t , and we are now en d eavou rin g to en su re t h a t t h e ve w i l l be more than one typ e o f f a c e - p ie c e so th a t each in d iv id u a l can ber is su e d w ith re a so n a b le pro tec tio n .
