I sincerely hope that this will turn out to be unnecessary, since I now have certain other fixed engagements in May. My specific problem lies in the work that has to be done in May in preparation for the Commencement Exercises of the University. There are always several examinations for candidates for doctoral degrees, and, more importantly, graduate theses that have to be gone over with great care. I am always swamped with work at that time, and so I undertake to keep as free as possible of out-of-town engagements. This is doubly difficult this year because of the death of Frank Prihci and my lack of his help in dealing with the many matters that had been delegated to him.
