Dear Mr. Seawell: In response to Dr. Torkelson's letter of June 1st to you along with the attached correspondence, I am generally in favor of the approach outlined by Mr. Davis. I feel that the VC - PVC industry obligated itself to carry out such a study and that this is one of the greatest opportunities the scientific community has ever had to learn the relationship between animal studies and human exposure over a wide range of exposures. I feel that Uniroyal will support this study financially consistent with its position in the industry. I do think we should try to re-define exposure levels. Since our PVC operation is shut down and key personnel dispersed we will abide by levels worked out by those still in the industry. I do not feel that much would be gained by adding the cohort hired since the last study. I also agree that more careful follow-up of the brain tumor-nervous system category is important.
