Teck has been named for seven consecutive years as one of the top 10% of the world's 2,500 largest public companies on the Dow Jones Sustainability index. Teck's spends an average of $375 million annually on procurement from U.S. suppliers. Executives from Teck's headquarters are hoping that you might have time for a brief visit to introduce the company to you and update you on an issue in Region 10. Teck is actively engaged in the Upper Columbia River (UCR) Remedial Investigation & Feasibility Study (RI/FS) process that is underway in looking at the historical discharges from the Trail (Canada) smelter. The REFS was enabled through a (2006) Settlement Agreement between Teck and US government agencies with an initial estimated cost of $7 million. Under EPA Region 10's oversight, Teck has now spent more than a decade and $90 million investigating the UCR Site in a rigorous, multi-party process that appears to still remain years away from conclusion. Teck had a productive meeting recently with Regional Administrator Chris Hladick about the direction the process is taking. I am attaching Teck's follow up correspondence for your background. Our contacts in the Region have encouraged us to reach out to F1Q. Would a meeting on Wednesday, February 28th be possible, perhaps a time between 10:30 and 1:30? At our meeting, I would be joined by Peter Rozee, Teck's Senior VP for Commercial and Legal Affairs, Christian Baxter, Director of Environmental Performance, and Tom Syer, Head of Government Affairs --and two of my partners who are national experts in energy and environmental law. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any additional information. I look forward to meeting you. Many thanks!
