Intermediates as well as Sales Products, are required to meet specifications set up for the product whether it is manufactured on a batch to batch interplant or intraplant basis. Such a goal is possible only when complete cooperation and communications are in effect between the Technical and Manu facturing Departments. DISCUSSION AMD PROCEDURE: For pigment containing formulations, the Formula Record and its accompanying Production Batch Slip specifies the method of dispersion deemed to be the most advantageous in acquiring the necessary quality. If for some reason the product cannot be manufactured using the recommended equip ment, thus necessitating substitute equipment, a Local Vari ation formula, as described in Routine & Policy Bulletins 126 and 206, must be submitted by the local laboratory to the manufacturing department for its production. Hie Local Variation formula can only be issued after the local labora tory consults with the Product Control Laboratory so as to be certain that no adverse effects will result by using another mode of manufacture. Raw material availability may also be another reason why a particular manufacturing department cannot carry out produc tion as is indicated on the formula record. This, likewise, necessitates a Local Variation formula with proper clearance from the Product Control Laboratory. Hie manufacturing department is not permitted to deviate in any form or manner from the formula composition, manufacturing equipment or manufacturing instructions shovn on the Formula Record and its Production Batch Slip., Wherever such deviations are necessary, a Local Variation formula, issued by the lab oratory, will be the official authority to manufacture on that b&si>3 N15608
