Brown, Jr., called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.r. and asked each person to stand and identify himself sal his company affiliation. =-* ' * The minutes of the last meeting were presented for reading. Hr. Peels moved that the reading be omitted. Seconded by Mr. Sebuman, So voted. I o Minute* - General Meeting - continued Page -2- 3. The Financial Report was presented by i'x, M. Schuaan, Treaaurer. Hr, Peele moved that it be accepted, seconded by lac. Jtaugh, and so voted. The report is attached to these minutes* 4. Mr. r.Jay Plocken, Legal Counsel, discussed the background, stat utory construction and means of enforcement pertaining to the Sher man Act, with particular emphasis on the per se offenses which have been established under Section 1 of the Act* 3* f*. N.W. Hendry, General Sales Manager, Canadian Johos-fanvil2e Asbestos Limited, Asbestos Fibre Division, presented a most intereat ing report on behalf of the asbestos fibre producers* The full text of his report is attached to these minutes* 6* Mr. Howard E, Shearer, Industrial Development Coordinator, PMC Corp. American Viscose Division, Marcus Hook, Pa*, addressed the meeting. Hi* subject, "Some Fiber Relationships of Interest to the Asbestos Textile Manufacturer'*, was moat informative* Assisted by rhotoaicrogrsphic slides, J-ir* Shearer explained the various steps in the manufacture of rayon and distinguishing features of the many de scriptions of staple produced by the American Viscose Division* It was indicated that the uniform diameters and lengths of a crimped rayon with a serrated cross section; and its cohesive and processing properties enhanced by the presence of a delustrant and special lu bricating finish, make such a stable especially attractive as a car rying fiber for spinning of asbestos* Resident Drown expressed to l*r. President Drown reported with deep regret the death of T.C. %:Cluskey, President of Tallnan-McCluskey Fabrics Company, which ccurred on July 18, 1966. hr. McCluskey was a most loyal supporter of the various activities of the A.T.I., and had served as its tressnrer in 1938, and as Vice President in 1961 and 1962. President Drown stated that he had written a letter of sympathy to Mrs. MeCluskey on behalf of the Institute, and the letter is made a part of these minutes* 9* Mr, Peele, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, reported that the members of the Board of Governors for the coning ye ar would bet ii 1j i! Peele informed the members that the Hoard of Governor* had et on Oetober 6, 1966, and elected the following officers to serve in the coming year: President - ,1.L. -Tsiney, American Asbestos Textile Corporation Vice President - E.A. Schuman, Johns-i'anville Corporation Treasurer - N.L.A. Hartucci, Garlocl:, Inc. 11. President Drown stated that the rresent chairmen of Air Hygiene fc J*fg., Technical, Sales Promotion snd Piber Testing Committees, all of who* have completed only one year of the normal two year service, would be continued for another year without change, 12* President Drown, retiring president, was presented with a hand some AT/"OS clock on behalf of the members, by ilr. Teele, in apprecia tion of his leadership of the Institute during the past two years. President Brown expressed his thanks for the gift id th appropriate remarks, and said that it had been a most pleasurable and worthwhile experience to have had the opportunity to serve the Institute as it* President. He thanked the members and the Board of Governors for the fine cooperation given him during his tenure of office. 13. President Drown commented on the fact that so many of the w-a bera had brought tl>eir respective wives to this meeting (about 30) and remarked that the ladies had contributed a great deal to the mo dal success and good fellowship so evident in the two days preceding this General Meeting. President Drown announced that the next reguhr meeting of -she Institute would be held on February 0-10, 1967, at the Cu&JtRY HILL INN, Cherry ilill, ii.J. The Cherry Hill Inn is well-known for its new and exceptionally fine accomnodations. It is located osar Cam- : den, H.J., Just across the river from rhiladelphia. It is convenient | by TAXI to Philadelphia's trains and airr>ortsl and also is close to j the New Jersey Turnpike for those who drive their ears to the weeting \ 13.
