Interoffic Communication To Laurie Mauerman From T G. Grumbles Data February 8, 1983 Subject TRANSPORTATION BENZENE EXPOSURES CONFIDENTIAL In reviewing the sampling data from January, several concerns are raised. 1. What are the circumstances creating an exposure of 57.4 ppm for 15 minutes. To the best of your knowledge, was this procedural or associated with an equipment upset? 2. Why was a dual cartridge respirator In use? It was my Impression that air-line equipment was used at this rack. Also, this respirator may have been Inadequate for this situation based on our PEL for benzene and the protection factor for DCR's. I realize the problems we have had at this rack before, and trust that the situation has been investigated and steps taken, if feasible, to prevent such exposures from recurring. ar**------- Thomas G.
