DR. KEHOE HONORED BY LEAD PRODUCERS Chicago -- Dr. Robert A. Kehoe, internationally known authority on industrial
toxicology, was honored here today by the presentation of a plaque in recognition
of 30 years of service. The occasion was a special luncheon at the 37th Annual
Meeting of the Lead Industries Association, Inc.
The plaque is the most recent of many honors accorded Dr. Kehoe for his
pioneering work in environmental medicine, trace metal metabolism, and related
fields. The Industrial Medical Association, of which he is a member, has given
him its highest honor, the William A. Knudsen Award. He has been similarly ^
- r >honored by being named Cummings Memorial Lecturer by the American Industrial Hygiene
Association, of which he is pa.st President.
In June, Dr. Kehoe will retire as Professor of Medicine .and Director of the
Kettering Laboratory in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Industrial Health
at the College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati. The new Administration
Building of the Kettering Laboratory there has been named for him.
The simple lead plaque awarded him at the luncheon expresses the respect he has won in his work with lead toxicology in particular. His work in this field
began in the very early days of mass manufacture of automobiles with the purpose
of achieving safety and high health standards in the manufacture and use of
tetraethyl lead for gasoline. The excellent record which has been maintained in this area can be largely traced to work performed by Dr. Kehoe.
