1 . SCOPE
1.1 This s p e c i f i c a t i o n covers high temperature i n s u la t i o n cement fo r thermal co ntro l o f i r r e g u l a r s u r f a c e s o f equipment and p i p i n g o p e r a t i n g a t tem pera tures between 100 and 1800*F.

The i n s u la t i o n cement s h a l l be composed o f a dry m ixture o f r e f r a c t o r y m aterial o f ro c l or mineral f i b e r , asbestos f i b e r s , and c l a y b in d e r , thoroughly mixed to o b ta in uniform d i s t r i b u t i o n o f the in g r e d ie n ts . The com position o f the cement s h a l l be such t h a t , vhen properly mixed with fre sh w ater, i t can be a p p lie d w ith a trowel or by band,
3 .2 S u lfu r c o n t e n t . The s u l f u r conten t s h a l l not exceed 0,50 p ercen t (see 4 , 3 . 1 ) .

The cement s h a l l be b u i l t up to a 3 - in c h t h ic k n e s s on the t e s t p l a t e in a wooden mold 4 inches wide and S inches lon g and allowed to stan d at room tem peratu re f o r 30 d a y s . Then th e m a t e r i a l s h a l l be removed from th e t e s t p l a t e . The t e s t p la te s h a l l he immediately cleaned with w ater, wiped d r y , and examined f o r c o r r o s io n . Corrosion along the edges o f the p la te w ill be disregarded,
