r INTER-OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE Date: March 5, 1974 From: Zeb G. Bell, Jr. Location: 19 East Subject: VCM Outage This is to confirm our telephone conversation of March 4, 1974, on the reconsnended procedures for preventing the exposure of the employee during the work on the VCM product still. The still should be purged to below 50 ppm of VCM. All lines and pipes to and from the unit should be blanked or otherwise isolated. Clean coveralls should be issued to the workers each day and changed if contaminated. Employees involved in the removal of rust, dust, and other materials should also wear clean coveralls. Employees inside of the still should wear a self-contained breathing apparatus, gloves, and boots. The workers should shower at the end of each day or whenever there is evidence of obvious contamination of the worker's clothing. There should be a safety man assigned to this project to assure that the safety provisions listed above are implemented. Waste material from the product still should be placed in closed containers. If you have any questions, concerning the above procedures, please do not hesitate to contact me. Zeb G. BellTdryAT^ ZGBimal cc: J. A. Clapperton A. G. DeMarco L, B. Grant, M.D. W. B. Graybill/L. F.
