Please note that these contain several plasticizers and a barium cadmium stabilizer. The information relative to the nature of the sta bilizer is confidential and normally not divulged to outside personnel. As pointed out during our conversation it seems that Dr. Oppenheimer is trying to determine the influence of pore size without regard to the nature of the sponge or its toxic ingredients. Dear Dr. Nele: You have been so helpful to us in the past in_connection with our vrork on carcinogenesis by plastics that 1 am venturing to ask if you can help us once more. Y;e are investigating the relative carcinogenicity of plastic materials in different forms, such as film, fibers, powders etc. end we would very much like to compare, the carcin ogenic action of sponges cf different porosities. \.'e have already imbedded the polyvinyl sponge "Ivalon", manufactured by Clay-Adcrns Inc., with wich v:e obtained sarcomas in g.S y> of the cases. '.Ye would like to obtain a sponge of much finer pores, but so far have not succeeded in finding one that is satisfactory for our purpose. The cellulose " Pine Pore Sponge " of Du Pont is very little finer than the " Ivalon " . Y/e have obtained samples of the "millipore cellulose filters" now on the market, with pores of microscopic size, but we have been unable to find material with pores intermediate between that size and the Ivalon.
