Your retirement does raise some questions that the SRP will surely have, notably, what will become of the SHS database at UCHSC? Will it need to migrate somewhere else -- I expect that will surely be the case, with you no longer a member of the faculty. Are there specific plans in place to manage this migration? Best regards, Jerry Dear Rich, I am about to organize the annual SRP conference call, as well as provide a brief monthly update to the Oversight and Technical Committees regarding the QA/QC team efforts, and I would appreciate any information you can provide about the following: Status of Dr Fu -- I haven't seen any follow-up from the higher authorities at Fudan about his status, and I gather that he is still in his office at the School of Public Health, occasionally causing disruption to the case enrollment process by not processing payments to patients (since April 1). At the same time, Otto says that Fu is almost indispensable to him, by virtue of his providing several junior people to assist Otto when he is in Shanghai (for which he is paid, via a separate contract). This situation seems to me to have the potential to develop into a major headache -- even more of a headache than it is already -- and I would appreciate any further information you can provide about Fu's current status and involvement in any aspect of the SHS, financial or otherwise. Preliminarv data set for the AML arm of the case-control study -- As AML case accrual numbers are now quite robust, it seems appropriate to provide Otto with as large a preliminary data set as possible for this arm of his study. This data set should only include cases for which the final diagnosis has been established and agreed by the pathologists, and for which the IC forms, completed questionaires, and two controls are available. It is understood that no EA job matrix data are available yet to accompany this data set, but from the questionaires it should be possible to do at least a "first cut" analysis (e.g., for a history of benzene exposure, is a specific case "yes", "no" or "not determined"?) As Gail Jorgenson participated in the initial QA/QC team conference call and her role, as I understood it, was to work up such a data set for Otto, I tried to initiate this yesterday, only to learn that Gail retired on 3131 and for the moment cannot be re-employed as a consultant. So Rob Schnatter has agreed to be Otto's contact person for this purpose, and you will shortly receive an email from me to Otto, copies to you and Rob, addressing the preliminary data set issue. "NHL" arm of the CC study -- Otto would also like a preliminary data set of lymphoid tumor cases and controls also, but as these present some special problems (I gather that nurse Lu at the Tumor Hospital has no private space in which to talk SH ELL-MCCLU RG-053728 with patients she is trying to enroll, and that this situation has a negative impact on case accrual) I personally think it would be well to address this issue after the AML series has been generated and passed to him. Do you agree? Exposure assessment activities for the CC study -- Are you satisfied with the rate of progress towards completion of the job/exposure matrix, and are you confident that it will be sufficiently comprehensive when it is complete? Bob Herrick and John Cherrie are working regularly with Tom Armstrong and Rob Schnatter on this, and Rob says he feels their involvement has been quite useful, but progress seems a bit slow. Your take on this would be most helpful. DP and ME studies -- Are there any further results from these studies since your January progress report that I should know about, to communicate to the SRP?
