Linseed oil, turpentine, dry colors, insecticide materials, and goods not of our manufacture: "30 DAYS NET: 1 % discount for cash within 10 days from date of invoice." (It is designed to have the above terms printed on our bill forms which will avoid the necessity of using rubber stamps.) Varnish: Where varnish is sold to the trade iti excess of five gallons, separate bills are to be rendered and the following terms will apply: "FOUR MONTHS NET: 4% discount for cash within 15 days from date of invoice." SPECIAL SPRING STOCK-ORDER TERMS Special terms will apply on stock-orders booked for shipment between November 1st and the following April 1st, as specified below. It is understood that no agency order of less than $50, nora Brighten Up assortment fora dealer for less than this amount will be considered a stock-order. Also that these special terms apply to only one shipment during any fiscal year. Where these terms apply they are to include all varnish incorporated in the stockorder, but in no case to include linseed oil, turpentine, or other material specified above under the 30-day classification: "SPECIAL THIS BILL ONLY 60 days from April 1st, NET 2% for cash if paid on or before April 15th." MANUFACTURERS' SALES DEPARTMENT For agricultural implement paint business, automobile and small carriage trade, the regular trade 60-day terms, as above noted, will apply. RAILWAY SALES DEPARTMENT AU invoices to bear the following stamp: "TERMS--60 DAYS/' This applies to all railway, street railway and car company business. No mention is made of discount for cash, although 2% will be allowed if requested and if payment is made within 15 days from invoice date. VARNISH SALES TO DEALERS AND JOBBERS Orders of varnish should be booked on our regular paint terms, as far as possible, viz.: "60 days, less 2% for cash in 15 days." Special varnish terms, however, will read as follows: "TERMS--4 MONTHS NET: 4% for cash within 15 days from date of invoice." Sole: Where small orders for varnish arc booked with a larger order for paint, the entire order is lobe included in one bill, to be governed by the Paint Terms. If it is found necessary, however, to quote different terms on varnish than on paint, the orders wifi be written up separately and two bills will be rendered to customer. The same arrange ment will also apply to turpentine and linseed oil, etc. In other words, there will not be a combination of terms on any one invoice. They will satisfactorily supply the paint and varnish needs of the painter and decorator, die sign-writer, the contractor and builder, the archi tect, the carriage custom and repair-shop, the property-owner, the farmer and the housewife. We offer our line of products to the trade with the knowledge that they will fulfil every claim we make for them and, when used as intended, will always prove satisfactory. Controlling as we do, the supply of nearly all important raw materials used in our products and maintaining chemical laboratories and testing-rooms where they are carefully examined for quality, we are able to offer goods of higher quality, which are more reliable and uni form than those made by less favorably situated makers. When pushed by a live, wide-awake merchant, Sherwin-Williams Paints and Varnishes will overcome competition, bring good trade and profits and give the dealer a reputation for reliable goods that will be one of his most valuable trade assets. Lead and Zinc Mines and Smelters, where we employ large forces of men to mine and convert these ores. White Lead Plants, where we corrode white lead by the Old Dutch Process, and manufacture other lead products. There is no other material, either ready prepared or hand-mixed, that will give such uniformly good results. SWP is made from carefully selected materials that the most reputable and intelligent authorities recognize as possessing best paint qualities, thoroughly mixed in most scientific proportions to insure best results, and very finely ground in machinery of our own design. On comparative test with lead and oil or cheaper materials, SWP will prove to cost less by the job, or on an average per year will cost leu per 1000 square feet, because it spreads easier under the brush, saves the painter's time, covers the greatest number of square feet to the gallon and wears the longest possible time. Briefly, a liven surface can be properly painted with SWP for a less overate cost per annum than any other paint made, including pure white lead and oil. SWP is made in one quality only, and that the very best that our long experience in high-grade paint-making indicates will give but results. SWP has been on the market for over 40 years and enjoys a higher reputation and larger sale than any other paint in the world. It will cover 360 square feet of average surface two coats to the gallon. SWP is sold direct to dealers who have been selected as.our agents for its sale to consumers. There is but one price for the paint, all dealers or agencies being served alike. For usual directions for use. see our color-cards and labels on each can. For detailed directions for specific surfaces, see our pamphlet, "The Right Use of Paint." SWP PRIMERS GRAY AND TELL0W A scientific under-coating and best foundation on which to apply good paint. Costs no more per job than a primer made from cheap ochre, either paste or dry, which sort of primer is absolutely worthless as a foundation for subsequent coats. There are many - -''cheap kalsomine finishes on the market which aim at this result and are satisfactory for some of the cheaper classes of finish, but which are 1h no way suitable for high-class work. S-W Flat-Tone is made to meet the particular requirements of the higher class, genteel effects in finish ing. It does not drag or pull under the brush, nor does it leave brushmarks. Can be cleaned without injury. It is the ideal flat finish and the only satisfactory one which combines: Soft, velvety, flat effects; Richness and depth of tone; A satisfactory surface for refinishing at any time; Thorough binding, which insures freedom from chalk ing or washing off; Durability; which permits of repeated washing and cleaning without injury; Ease of application; does not streak when applied with a wide wall or kalsomine brush; Adaptability for use as a groundwork under enamels and glaze colors--the highest type of decoration; Economy in first cost, due to large covering capacity secured through extreme fineness in grinding; uniformity in shade, which saves the time re quited in thatching and mixing materials on the job, etc. The paint should be stirred thoroughly from the bottom of the can to a uniform consistency. If found too thick for ordinary use, thin slightly with spirits turpentine. S-W Liquid Flat-Tone should be applied with a wide wall-brush and flowed on freely with a sweeping stroke similar to the method used in applying kalsomine. Owing to the varying conditions of the surfaces over which Flat-Tone may be applied, it is not possible to give definite instructions for use which will be found applicable in every case. Hence the following directions are only intended to suggest in a general way the best method for use: NEW WORK--Plaster or cement walls should first be primed with a mixture composed of S-W Flat-Tone Mixing Size and Liquid Flat-Tone equal parts. Over this two coats of the lighter shades or one coat of the darker colors will usually give very good results. Allow at least twenty-four hours for drying and hardening between coats. On new woodwork we would recommend for the priming-coat adding a pint of raw linseed oil and a pint of turpentine to, each gallon Of Liquid Flat-Tone. Usually two coats of the lighter colors over a suitable priming-coat will be found to give vesy satisfactory results, while oftentimes one coat of the darker colors will suffice. Allow from thirty-six to forty-eight hours for drying and hardening between coats. OLD WORK--On walls or woodwork that have been previously painted, first remove all loose paint and see that the surface is firm, smooth and free from high gloss. Two coats of Liquid Flat-Tone, as it comes from the can, will be found to give very satisfactory results. Covering Capacity--One gallon of S-W Liquid Flat-Tone will coyer approximately 275 to 300 square feet, two coats, depending upon the condition of the surface over which the goods are applied. When used over smooth plastered walls one gallon will cover between 350 to 400 square feet, two coats. The problem of wall treatment is one which demands very careful consideration in interior decoration. The walls should harmonize with the woodwork, furniture and draperies. They should not be too prominent, harsh or glossy, but should rather form.a pleasing background, holding the entire room in complete harmony. East. By using these colors in connection with Flat-Tone Glazing Liquid over a suitable groundwork, such as S-W Flat-Tone or ODP White Lead, the experienced decorator or painter can obtain an infinite variety of shades, with tones of great depth and beauty of color, and of a character impossible with any other finish. Owing to the variety bf effects obtained, it is always possible to finish walls and ceilings in perfect harmony with the rest of the color-scheme, not only in an endless variety of colors, but also in effects, ranging from the simple transparent glaze to a two or three-color mottled and blended effect. FlatTone Glaze and Stencil Colors are ground in oil to impalpable fineness, and by the addition of Flat-Tone Glazing Liquid can be reduced to the most delicate tones, yet always retaining their brilliancy, no matter what the reduction. They are extremely transparent, lack any tendency to clouding and blend admirably with suitable groundwork, giving a depth of color usually found only in rich fabrics. They are adapted for use in the most elaborate Stencil decorations on walls and ceilings--both for application of the stencil itself and for "tinting in" the design. Being very transparent, very rich in color and finely ground, Flat-Tone Glaze and Stencil Colors are most suitable lor stenciling on fabrics of all kinds.
