The new asbestos ore properties are located at Mashaba in the Victoria Dis trict of Southern Rhodesia, about 200 miles south of Salisbury and 120 miles east of Bulawayo. The project is part of Johns-Manville's long range program to maintain ade quate supplies of asbestos ore for many years to come, according to A. R. Fisher, President. Johns-Manville is a nationally known manufacturer of building materials, insulations and allied industrial products. The plans made public today call for development of the asbestos ore proper ties of Rhodesian Asbestos Limited and construction of a small central mill to process asbestos bearing ore extracted from the mine, Mr. Fisher said. Rhodesian Asbestos Limited was formed in December, 1951, and is under the direction of Canadian Johns- Manville Company, Ltd., a subsidiary of the American corporation, in association with British Metals Corporation, Ltd., Anglo-Huronian Ltd., Southern Minerals & Marketing Corp., (Pty) Ltd. and the Simon I. Patino interests. James Robert Ewing, a widely experienced mining engineer formerly with South ern Minerals & Marketing Corporation of Southern Rhodesia, has been appointed Mine Manager, Mr. Fisher said. Mr. Ewing graduated in 1923 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in mining from the University of British Columbia. He also holds a Master's degree in geology from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario. He resides with his wife and three children at liashaba, Southern Rhodesia.
