I have sent him a 4051E formula based on the work that he has done with minor substitutions to the 4051D. I plan to meet with Bill Harrison and John Brown on December 9, 1977 to discuss the reports on 405ID and 410ID from Texas and the Bay Area. I have given Wayne Harp a test formula of 4025A Taping Compound to compare with the current asbestos type he makes for Denver. DRY POWDER JOINT COMPOUND - I have received good reports from John Brown and Don Marquardt on 5525D Asbestos-Free Taping Compound. We are starting now to ship to some customers on a controlled bases. I need to put lab time in on 5512 All Purpose and 5535 Finishing Compound. Texas has had a 5511A AsbestosFree All Purpose out for testing but Bill Harrison reported today that the "regular*' 5511 is really not exceptable because of its poor paintability. The 5511A will not improve this and therefore I must start from scratch for a replacement. WALL TEXTURE - Texas has been waiting for a mercury type preservative to make a test batch of 5565C. I have authorized Wayne to make a batch with a substitute since this would not effect the performance. A batch will be made tomorrow and I will advise Bill Harrison. I have not heard of any problems with the 5565C from San Carlos since we made the change. CEILING TEXTURE - We have made a batch (H5221B) of V-100B which is Asbestos-Free. Eighty five bags were shipped to Bill Freeman on December 6, 1977. We are also planning to make a simular batch of V-100C containing Vermiculite instead of polystyrene. This will also be sent to Bill Freeman as a possible replacement for his sales of 2000 bags per week of the V-1Q0A "fine". I have completed expansion and grinding test on an expandable product from Dow chemical. This is the peanut shaped product used for packaging. There will be some material conveying problems with this material but I think they can be overcome. I have ordered 1000 pounds of bead and a truck load of expanded material for Hurst.
