Use competent service and sales-mlnded personnel in the pack house and shipping o ffIc e . 2. Product q u a lity and consistency. There are two very important areas with respect to th is item. For producers of concrete products, both sack and bulk, maintenance of color has to be con sistent along with q u a lity . Also with respect to p la s tic , we,,cannot contim to have asbestos in the hand p la s tic and no asbestos in the gun p la s tic and th is does happen. Another item is to be on the peg with respect to sack weights. We have been over and under numerous times. 3. Load-out We are s t i l l delaying truckers. We have had complaints on delays involving as much as 9 hours as rece n tly as November 9, 1965 (see attached RTA). Also production should look into complaints on p a lle tiz in g , and stacking, paper sack strengths, d ir ty pre-pal Ietized (cads and to put in f a c i l i t i e s and personnel s u ffic ie n t to give s e rv ice equal to, or b etter than, our competitors give. We cannot develop the demand and then be equal. We have to be equal and then earn the business. This situ a tio n is not "Which came f ir s t , the chicken or the egg?" Our plant personnel should develop " e s p r it de corps". We have accounts th a t w ill give us orders i f we can take care o f them. One good example is Valmat and, as you can see by the attached report, our service leaves something to be desired. Now, I believe i t is safe to assume th a t every truck th at comes into our plant must receive the same treatment and, in turn, leaves there with the same negative impression. With regard to Doug Ashton's memo of October 5th regarding Chemical Transport and his last paragraph s p e c if ic a lly , coffee. This is good.
