HOME OFFICE (Explosives Department), Room 35* Home Office, Whitehall, S.W.l.
l4th November, 1952.
Gentlemen, I beg to refer to the recent visit I had from
your Mr. Gill, when we discussed the recommendation in the Final Report issued in 1930 on the use of tetra-ethyl lead in motor spirit, namely, that you should include in your agreements with the various companies that the pumps from which leaded petrol is served should contain a notice to the effect that the petrol contains tetra-ethyl lead and advising certain precautions. I have now consulted the authorities here and they do not expect your Corporation to include this term in your contracts.
I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, (Sgd.) H.E. WATTS H.M. Chief Inspector of Explosives.
