SABINA : Dear Harold and Jack: In line with my telephone discussion with both of you, I got in touch with Bob Kehoe upon his return to the laboratory on December 10 for the purpose of agreeing on minor changes to his report. The items considered were, with the exception of the last, the same as mentioned to each of you and were as follows: On page 1 about half way down, a statement will be made that the total lead*liberated to the atmosphere will be the same with X-105A as with tetraethyl lead when gasolines are "doped" to the same lead level. On page 5 in the middle of the second full paragraph, the statement will be modified to show that the supervisor was a member of the test team and not simply a garage employee. On page 6 the third line from the bottom will have the words "...then departing, usually without turning off the motors" deleted. This deletion is for the purpose of improving the accuracy, but more importantly to avoid any implication that safety laws were being violated. On page 9 , line 3 > the lead equivalent should be approximately 2.04 rather than the 2.44 shown. On page 16 in the last paragraph, the statement will be clarified in its reference to lead content in the atmosphere as being that contributed by the organic portion. Ktr 0004088 2 On pages 2 7 and 28 in commenting upon the further work that should be done, the wording will be modified to indicate that the consideration has to do with questions other than those necessary at this time to permit the use of X-105A in com mercial gasolines. On page 28 the acknowledgment should be changed to show Ed Keihn for John Koehnle, and Wilson Hancock for Willis Hancock. On the question regarding the steps that might y be required to obtain clearance in Canada, it was Bob's thought that the Canadians would lean heavily upon the American findings and decisions. He plans, however, to explore this through contacts in Canada. The points mentioned above were acceptable to Bob, and he will modify the report accordingly. He is leaving soon for a European trip and will, therefore, not be in position to make his approach on this subject to the Surgeon General until January 1, but will do so immediately thereafter. At"the time of approaching the Surgeon General, he will leave with them copies of the revised report if they so desire, but every effort will be made to have the concurrence of the Surgeon General obtained on an informal basis h I trust that the path for X-105A will be cleared of at least the more important obstacles so that use can be made of this very interesting development. In view of the fact that I do not anticipate any further word from Bob on this subject until after the holidays, may I take this opportunity of wishing each of you a very pleasant Holiday Season. cc: Dr. R.
