Shook was at Saranac recently he talked with certain ptrsons who sere conducting the animal experiments on laylo duet. Some questions car.e u- as to the composition of Kaylo--and ie are listing then below with answers: , 1. Is the dust now being used of the sane compo sition as the material that waj originally ouprlied' There was, to the best of our loowledge, no significant difference ic the cespcsitions of the lots of Kaylo dust supplied, with this possible exception: the asbestos portion of the sore recent dust say have contained a greater ratio of sxosite to ehrysotlle. 2. Does Kaylo contain tri- or di-calci\a: silicate? Apparently a caparison of the effect of port land cec.er.t arid of kayle dust gave rise to the inquiry if laylo contains tri- or di-calcius silicate* The answer is no* laylo contains a hydrated aono-calcius silicate, This coepouad tends to hydrolyse in rater to give a rar!nu pH of about 10,5. The anhydrous tri- and di etician silicates, which are constituents of eeaer.t, give rise to pH values of 12*3 and of 11*5 reepec tirely. 3* I* San toe el, on wbicb the Trudeau Laboratory is nor conducting similar tests, about the sane in composition as laylo? Santo:el is essentially 100$ amorphous silica* laylo, on the other hand, contains no free silica except for only occasional grains of residual or unrracted quarts* These grains ( OWENS' "LLINOIS GLASS C \MPANV GENERAL OFFICES TOLEDO l.
