I have tried to convey the idea that in the efforts of many years to obtain the necessary information about the behavior of lead, for the purposes of understanding the common environmental conditions of life in this period (beginning in the late twenties) with respect to lead, as well as those which involve the hazard of lead poisoning, the present set of experiments relating to the tolerable concentration of lead in the air (as a step toward the establishment of a standard on a sound physiological basis), although they have been under way for about eight years, are but one phase of this work. It strikes me that you and your associates in your Center may have reason to be interested in the broader aspects of this problem (beyond the information to be derived from these experiments). I include, therefore, among the exhibits, Which are being sent separately, a copy of a paper given at the last meeting of the Air Polljution Control Association (New York City, June), which will be published, eventually, in the Journal of AFCA.
