Has been working for United Airlines since September I9 I16 in California. Came to this office voluntarily. Job has been yielding exhaust stacks on aircraft. Grinds down places to be welded with portable grinder and follows this procedure by welding. Processes may be reversed at times. Has noted fumes and molten lead after welding. Atmosphere is dusty. In December 19ii6 small hard bumps began to form in the skin of the face. Each lesion appeared to have a hair follicle in the center. Change of diet failed to help. Varicosities in legs became more severe. Sores of nose and chin developed and grad ually subsided.
He has experienced a weight loss from 1US to 139 pounds in spite
of eating good food and forcing himself to eat regardless of mild anorexia. He has had mild malaise, forgetfulness, inability to sleep well, occasional pains in his right hip of an arthritic nature, and at times has had numbness in his -wrists. No consti pation, headache, weakness noted. Has had a sweet taste in mouth not unlike honeysuckle. All symptoms subsided approximately two weeks ago when he took it upon himself to use a respirator.
Grammar school through 9 th grade, leaving 1927. Worked as roofer and tinsmith (copper) soldering from 1927-1932. Has done voiding periodically since 1928. Employed by General Motors from 1932-1936 using principally steel. Took teachers training course from 1936-37* Was instructor (some soldering) from 1937-UO. Again welded from June 19HO-January I9 I4I. Armyservice from January 1 9 l4l-September 19 with infantry, ordnance and military police. Did electric arc welding while with ord nance but used very little lead. Service in South Pacific. Pre sent job with United Airlines since September I9 I46.
Single.
Usual childhood diseases without sequelae. No scarlet or rheu matic fevers. Dengue fever 19U3* No malaria or dysentery. Fracture of right tibia at age 1?. No disability since. No operations.
Health always excellent. Has worn glasses in past for astigmatism. Hearing acute. No mastoid or other ear infections in childhood. Infrequent headcolds. No sinusitis.
Not remarkable.
No dyspnea, cough, sputum.

Ho renal or bladder symptoms. Denies venereal infection.
Ho symptoms prior to present illness. Has had small varicosity of right leg for a number of years which became more severe and bilateral with military service. Smokes moderately. Alcohol in moderation. Regular hours of sleep. Adequate with sufficient meat, milk and eggs.

Well developed and nourished male. Talks rapidly.
Few firm intra-dermal nodes of face.
Conjunctiva and sclerae clear. E.O.M. full. Pupils round,
equal, react well to light and on accomodation. Fundi - neg.
Cerumen in canals but both drums are clear. Hearing acute.
Septal deflection to left with mild obstruction.
Teeth in excellent repair. Ho gingivitis or lead line.
Tonsils small and scarred. Pharynx clear.
Thyroid not palpable. Ho adenopathy.
Clear to P&A.

No enlargement. Rate and rhythm normal. Sounds good. Ho
murmurs.
Soft. Liver, kidneys, spleen not palpable. Ho herniae. Ho
inguinal adenopathy.
Moderately severe varicosities of both legs but principally on
right.
Cranial and peripheral nerves intact. Ho muscle weakness.
Reflexes physiological and equal. Vibratory and position sense
unchanged.
Impression
1. Questionable lead intoxication - mild. 2. Hypertension, mild - etiology undetermined. 3. Varicosities, bilateral - moderately severe, it. Folliculitis of face - healed.
