SHOPS SAFETY - APPLICATION LIMPET INSULATION We have been advised of the inherent health hazard exposure resulting from asbestos fibrous materials. The method we are presently using when applying Limpet insulating material by the use of air pressure and spray gun causes an extensive amount of the asbestos fibrous material to become air-borne. The employee health hazard created is the exposure for the human body absorbing these fibrous materials through inhalation or orally. In recognition of this potential when applying the Limpet material with a spray gun, the following precautions should be implemented and followed: '. 1. The application of Limpet material' should be performed in an isolated or remote location on the project* free from exposing buildings or other personnel on the project not directly associated with the application. Air-borne fibers can be wind blown or taken into buildings through the ventilation air intake systems, and therefore, must be controlled to eliminate exposure to personnel unrelated to the Limpet application work. ' 2 Personnel exposed to the application of Limpet material shall be provided with respiratory protection consisting of either a fresh air supply hood or MSA cartridge type respirator using an ultra-high filter Type H,'50 micron density. It should be noted that when using the recommended MSA cartridge filter, that it will be extremely hard for the individual to breathe through especially if required to do work of heavy exertion.
