PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT GF-1455
A. INDUSTRIAL INSUUTICMS
Inhibited Calsilite - Experience to date has been satisfactory with Calsilite SS. In 1968, $50,000 worth of material has been sold. Owens Corning now has an inhibited product on the market and it is supposed to replace regular Owens Corning Kaylo at the standard price. There con tinues to be a need for an inhibited product at a lower cost which would allow us to switch all production over to this formulation. Research work will continue.
Elimination of Canvas - The product without canvas is shown on the price list on a special order basis. Sales has had some response and received some orders. Generally speaking it is used only on specific job; not for a customer's stock. This subject is to be reviewed again at the end of the year.
Mildew Resistance - The use of a mildewcide in our canvas adhesive was inadvertently stopped. All parties agreed to start using it again. There has been no evidence of this type problem except when there was some question of moisture content of the Calsilite at time of packaging. Subject will be considered closed.
Reduction in Density - There is no progress to report on this subject. Suggest this item be removed from agenda.
Extended Leg Pipe Covering - The new saws have been installed at Gloucester. In order to be able to cut extended leg pipe covering, an additional $2,100 expenditure will be necessary. Marketing will study and recommend whether expenditure is justified.
36" Square Block - The new equipmeit has been installed to make this product. We will offer various widths up to 36". Marketing will advise the specific widths. Marketing and Manufacturing will discuss the necessary^packaging for this product.
Fire Doors - Marketing completed a study of fire door manufacturers across the country. Of the o nvi:;ufa^turers questioned, 1 or 2 expressed a mild interest in a calcium silicate core material for the fire doors. Cur rently, some is Kaylo 20, which is a high temperature (1800F.) product, is used. Most core material in fire doors is mineral wood or fibreglass. The disadvantage of calcium silicate is its weight which requires extra weight and sized hardware for the door. Marketing suggested this subject be closed because of lack of potential.
Dustless Calsilite - Research showed some samples of Calsilite block where the surface had been treated to reduce the dusting tendency. There is a current interest in this type product. Work will continue.

B. ASBESTOS PAPER AND MILLBOARD
1. Asbestos Latex Gasketing - A general review was made of the work done to date. A plant test was run in June attempting to match the properties of Accopac AN-875. This was generally successful except that the com pression recovery was low compared to AN-875. This is a very important property. Research notv has a laboratory formulation which shows satisfactory recovery without affecting other properties. A trial run of this formulation will be scheduled at an early date. This product will be in the 65-70 lb. /ft.-' density range which can be produced at Erie with existing.equipment. Samples of this trial run viill also be densified to 85 lbs./ft.' in order to see if this formulation will equal Accopac AN-890 which we understand is the high volume item in the Accopac line. Samples will be sent to calendering equipment manufacturers to be densified so that production calandering equip ment can be designed for Erie. Research will consider the advantages and need for a laboratory calandering unit to further this development. Research and Manufacturing will work together or the densifing study with eventual Engineering involvement. Marketing estimates the market potential of this line of products at $50,000,000/year.
2. Graphite Coated G-600 - This product has been successfully developed and has resulted in continuing business.
3. Increased Density G-600 - This product cannot be made without additional calandering equipment at Erie.
L. Flexatallic Gasketing - This is a low volume gasketing paper with a natural rubber latex binder. Work will continue on a lav priority basis.
5. Homosote - Samples of neoprene asbestos paper (E-520) failed the customers tests. It is believed that the paper being developed for Harley cooling tower fill will meet this customer's needs. Samples will be submitted when available. The volume in this case is estimated at 20 tons/year.
6. Asbestos Flooring Felt - Samples of 6' and 12' wide asbestos flooring felt have been submitted to iianningtan Mills. American Bilt-Rite has gone cut of business. Building Products Limited and National Floor Products are both evaluating samples of our product.
7. Lew Organic Asbestos - This product has been submitted and approved by Dow Chemical* It has not resulted in any business. No further research work needed at this time.
8. H. H. Robertson - Laboratory work is complete on an asbestos paper saturated with quaternary ammonium silicate. The customer has evaluated laboratory samples and is interested in a short plant trial of paper saturated on the paper machine. An attempt will be made to run this trial as soon as possible. There was general agreement that we should continue to work viith this customer on this development.

9.. Tar Saturated Pipe Line Felt and Glass Reinforced Pipe Line Felt
Hr. Holt reviewed his comments to date on our pipe line felt operation. He felt our product quality was poor, our manufacturing facilities were inadequate and our costs higjh. iSanufacturing will continue to develop what is needed to improve this product line.
10. Chopped Glass Addition to Asbestos Felt - The source of supply of asbestos and glass is now constant so one formulation can be adopted. Work will continue to develop a J-ii alternate for Vermont 7D-3 asbestos. The Building Products Division continues to have problems with asbestos roofing after approximately 5 years exposure. The problem relates to splitting of the felt on the build up roof.
11... Asbestos Fill for Cooling Towers - There continues to be a need for an asbestos paper to fill the subject requirements. Research work is con tinuing. Volume potential is significant.
12. Proctor Sjlex - High Cement Millboard - The samples submitted to subject company have been approved. Prices quoted are in line and some business should result. The same product has been submitted to Uestinghouse and is being tested to meet General Electric specifications.
13. Stanhope Products Co. - Low Density Millboard - Samples have been submitted to customer. No ward to date.
lli. Canadian Forest Products - Sample roll of asbestos latex paper was sub mitted for evaluation. No word to date.
15. Hercules Packing Co. - Blue Asbestos Gasketing - Samples have been submitted to Hercules using a butyl binder. No results to date. There . may be a need far this product supplied in rolls.
16. PPG Corning-Millboard for Glass Manufacture - Marketing is very inter ested in continuing development of a product for this use. A plant trial run will be made of a test formulation as soon as possible.
17. Cromer Co. - There is a need for a product in this application >iich will withstand saturating with an acrylic monomer and curing by means of Cobalt radiation. Samples of several products will be submitted for evaluation.
As a result of the discussion of Asbestos *aper and iiUboard Products, the following priorities were assigned:
1. Latex Gasketing 2. Millboard for glass manufacture 3. Pipe Line Felt I4. Asbestos Fill for Cooling Toilers 5. H. H. Robertson
