The program will be coordinated by the Market Development Committee. Reviewed the Technical Committee Report on proposed changes to the 1987 National Electrical Code. Analyzed the effects of amendments of others in the plastics industry. Following legal counsel review it was decided that the Vinyl institute would not comment. Participated, through consultant, on ASTM E-5, Committee on Fire Standards. Also, the consultant kept the committee apprised ofASTM committee activity focused on the development of test method(s) regarding corrosivity (E 5.21 Task Group 70). Consultant serving as Secretary of Task Group on E 5.15.6, Wall Coverings, a group charged with developing performance standards. Attended and participated in all code development and appropriate mid-year and annual meetings of the three model building code organizations: BOCA: SBCCI: ICBO: Building Officials Code Administrators International Southern Building Code Congress International International Conference on Building Officials. Worked with distributors to identify current limitations on the use of rigid PVC for ventilating hoods and ducting. Language to be drafted and reviewed by affected organizations for submittal to Technical Committee 91 (deadline for submittal for the next code cycle is January 1987). Developed text of promotional brochure targeted to model building code members and secured mailing labels for two-thirds of same. Project not completed due to change in direction. Mailing labels retained for future contact. Met with Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office to discuss qualification of plastic piping in steel-studded walls and the appropriateness of E-119 testing. Continuing work on developing generic CABO National Evaluation Report Program listing for PVC underslab heating and cooling duct. Reviewed and commented on the proposed draft of Board for the Coordination of Model Codes document addressing piping, ducting, and vent penetrations of both rated and non-rated assemblies. Reviewed a series of proposed tests that, if conducted, may lead to increased markets.* *Alan Olson will serve on the Market Development Committee as a liaison with the code activities of SPI and with code bodies that deal with issues affecting the vinyl industry.
