On June 9, 1976 the regular asbestos survey was conduce! 0 writer at the Eldon Axle Plants as required by the regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) (29 CFR 1910.1001). The results of this survey are indicated on the attached data sheets, which must be retained for a minimum of 20 years as required by OSHA regulations. As noted on the data sheets, the maximum employee exposure found during the present survey was 0.5 asbestos fibers (greater than 5 microns in length) per cubic centimeter of air. This is only 25% of the permissibli limit of 2.0 fibers/cc which became effective on July 1, 1976. Most expo sures are well below this level. Review of previous survey results also indicates that all asbestos exposures at the Eldon Axle Plant are well below the allowable limits. In view of these findings, it has been determined by Corporate Industrial Hygiene that future asbestos surveys at the Eldon Axle Plant can be conducted on an annual basis, rather than the semi-annual basis which as been followed in the past, with no loss of protection for the involved employees* Attachment cc: G.
