ll PRINSCO ENGINEERED WITH INTEGRITY _TECHNICAL NOTE POLYPROPYLENE CHEMICAL RESISTANCE Introduction Among many of the positive attributes of polypropylene, it is probably best known for its resistance to highly aggressive chemicals. While polypropylene is highly resistant to many chemicals at room temperatures, its chemical resistance decreases with increased temperatures. This technical note provides a basic resistance rating for many chemicals. This table is meant to serve as a general guide and should not be used to guarantee performance since specific site and application conditions may cause specific concerns which cannot be addressed in a general table. This chart rates the chemical resistance of polypropylene resin according to the following code: Ratings: A = Excellent B = Good, Minor Effect, slight corrosion or discoloration C = Fair, Moderate Effect, not recommended for continuous use. Softening, loss of strength, or swelling may occur. D = Severe Effect, not recommend for ANY use. N/A = Information not available Explanation of Footnotes: 1. means Satisfactory to 72F (22C) 2. means Satisfactory to 120F (48C) Chemical Compatibility Acetaldehyde Al -Excellent Acetamide Al -Excellent Acetate Solvent Bi-Good Acetic Acid Acetic Acid 20% Acetic Acid 80% B-Good A-Excellent A-Excellent Acetic Acid, Glacial Al -Excellent Acetic Anhydride Bi-Good Acetone A-Excellent Acetyl Bromide N/A Acetyl Chloride (dry) DEf-fSeecvt ere Acetylene Al -Excellent Acrylonitrile Al -Excellent Adipic Acid B2-Good Alcohols: Amyl B1-Good Alcohols: Benzyl A-Excellent Alcohols: Butyl A-Excellent mical Compatibility Alcohols: Diacetone B2-Good Alcohols: Ethyl A-Excellent Alcohols: Hexyl N/A Alcohols: Isobutyl Al -Excellent Alcohols: Isopropyl Alcohols: Methyl A2-Excel lent A2-Excel lent Alcohols: Octyl N/A Alcohols: Propyl A-Excellent Aluminum Chloride Aluminum Chloride 20% Aluminum Fluoride A-Excellent A-Excellent A-Excellent Aluminum Hydroxide A-Excellent Aluminum Nitrate Aluminum Potassium Sulfate 10% Aluminum Potassium Sulfate 100% Aluminum Sulfate A2-Excel lent A-Excellent A-Excellent A-Excellent Alums A-Excellent Amines B2-Good Ammonia 10% A2-Excel lent Ammonia Nitrate Ammonia, anhydrous Ammonia, liquid A-Excellent A-Excellent A2-Excel lent Ammonium Acetate A-Excellent Ammonium Bifluoride Ammonium Carbonate Ammonium Casei nate A-Excellent A-Excellent N/A Ammonium Chloride A-Excellent Ammonium Hydroxide A-Excellent Ammonium Nitrate A-Excellent Ammonium Oxalate A-Excellent Ammonium Persulfate Ammonium Phosphate, Dibasic A-Excellent A-Excellent !
