T. Barr As you know, I am now the new Chairman of the PVC/VCM Producers Group, an Ad Hoc Committee of the SPI. Ralph Harding and John Stafford, of ICI, visited me yesterday with respect to discussions on numerous common Issues on the vinyl chloride monomer problem. John has kindly agreed to a release of a CEFIC Report entitled, "Vinyl Chloride Toxicity and the Use of PVC for Packaging Foodstuffs", which SPI will transmit to the Food and Drug Administration, aa well as members of the SPI Committee. This report contains additional observations by Professor Maltoni on the effects of vinyl chloride on animals at Bologna. I also learned from John Stafford that on March 2, Professor Maltoni had givaia lecture to 12 leading cancer experts in France on these studies. Ralph Harding felt that he should write to the appropriate U.S. Government scientist with respect to an up-date of Professor Maltoni's work and John Stafford offered his good offices as a co sponsor of Professor Maltoni's research and member of CEFIC.
