Calif. 990}} Phone: (JOS) KAISER GYPSUM COMPANY, INC. 300 L akeside D rive O akland, C alifornia 94621 Gentlem en: O ur r e c o r d s show th a t yon have been a p u r c h a s e r and u s e r of our 1600 ASBESTOS f ille r and due to a notification that we re c e iv e d today from our source of supply on th is a s b e s to s w a ste m a te ria l fro m A riz o n a , we find i t n e c e s s a ry to ad v ise you that we will not be producing this item after January 1, 1974, We rec e iv e d notification today fro m o u r so u rc e of supply that they are being fo rc e d to abandon th e ir loading and sto ra g e facility on tills particuinr product by the E nvironm ental ? r ste e d on Agency and they forw arded a copy of their le tte r to us stating that this condition that o u ste d at their plant was not in com pliance with N ational E m ission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants and th a t they had to com piv by all the sta n d a rd s and law s no la te r than J a n u a ry 1, 1974. It w as th e ir d e c isio n , r a th e r than to try to comply and m eet this stan d ard , that they would discontinue this low grade of shorts and w astes that in no v/ay would justify the expensive investm ent that would be re q u ire d to m e e t the gov ern m en t re g u la tio n s . Of course this is a v ery bad piece of news as far as W estern Chemical and M an u factu rin g C om pany i3 concerned and I 'm su re it w ill affect all u sc r3 of th is p ro d u c t th a t we have been supplying now for the p a s t 15 o r 20 y e a r s . H ow ever, when our raw m aterial source of supply is no longer available, we have no choice but to discontinue the production of this p a rticu la r ite m . We do w ish to a d v ise you though that w e s till do handle o th er grades of a s b e s to s fiber that com e from other production and wc feel that in m ost instances by r e fo rm u la tin g a ro u n d o u r 7E.1C2 o r 7EN3 ASBESTOS FIBERS and then looking v e r y closely at our 7C-16 ASBESTOS FIBER , that there arc products that can be d e velo p ed and u sed by re fo rm u la tio n . A t the sa m e tim e wc w ish to e ffe r our s e r v ices both tech n ically and physically th a t wc have to o ffe r, in that if th ere a re p a rtic u la r b len d s th at you would req u ire w here this m ate ria l be m ixed with e ith e r lim e s to n e o r ta lc , we can take th e s e b a sic fib e rs and do tins com pounding fo r you sin c e wc do have tire fa c ilitie s h e r e at o u r p lan t.
