Dear Harrison, I must apologise for the delay in replying in detail to your most comprehensive letter regarding the developments at Abadan since the occasion of ray visit In general I do feel that all the points I discussed whilst there are being persued with great thoroughness. I hope you will convey our sense of appreciation when next writing to them. SimaoncLs and Hawker Machines ' It would appear as if this new equipment is performing in a very satisfactory manner. It would, however, b interesting to obtain some comparative data on lead in air determinations for the working area, before and after the installation of these machines. I imagine that these figures will be forthcoming It is noted that the Abadan laboratory will' attempt to assess the possible significance of free droplets in the air when carrying out routine air analyses The development of providing a strong suction duct to eliminate droplets being thrown off from the crimping machine is encouraging and naturally we would greatly appreciate receiving details as soon as sufficiently positive experimental data has been accumulated Improved Blending Facilities . It is noted with interest that it has, now been decided to install air eductor pump at the Motor Benzine Blending plant. This taken in conjunction with the installation of a 2" eductor should greatly improve the facilities at this point. Two 2" eductors have now been shipped. These are already assembled 'with nozzles and chokes best estimated to suit the conditions, but alternative sized nozzles and chokes have been provided so that alternative combinations can be tried on the spot i so desired. I would appreciate receiving performance figures on the new eductors v they become available. In passing I wonder if it is proposed to install jet mixing in any of the tan1 either the aviation or motor spirit blending areas. In view of the success of N21163 r .A D a t e . Thar Is little doubt that with th high head pumps aotually installed, the application of the jet principle should enabl la blend to be made directly into the tank with the assurance that the contents will be homogeneous in between one and two hours after the addition of the T*3L. The conditions in either the 16,000 ton or smaller tanks are so excessive in regard to available head that these mixing times are almost certainties. I know that at the moment the normal procedure is to blend by transference but if at any time in the future it is desired to blend in batches directly, the system could bs designed to operate at the optimum point of efficiency ia regard to the time energy relationship*: - c . r/ith regard to the changing and washing facilities at all blending plants we note with appreciation that the /Ibadan management have decided upon a programme of further improvement* be feel that these measures are justified especially in view of the large volume of blending that is currently being undertaken. be would appreciate receiving details of these modifications for our records Clinical Data* ?;e are extremely grataful for the comprehensive set of Clinical Data which was included* This has bean gassed over to Dr. Kehoe and we presume that he will be making M s detailed observations in due course. It would appear to us that the situation is being most closely followed by your medical department and the results themselves would appear to represent a great improvement In view of the fact that the whole situation is being closely studied it would obviously bs of the utmost value to us to receive these statements periodically.
